Ma paddy is a red rice variety traditionally grown in Sri Lanka. Grain size and shape vary from short and round varieties to medium sized varieties. Traditionally I believe that paddy has medicinal properties. It is used as an effective remedy for obesity, diabetes, tuberculosis and blood purification. Scientific studies have shown that there are high levels of protein and antioxidants. Also, it is a good source for iron and zinc.
