Siyambala (Tamarindus indica linn) is a plant that grows in many parts of the island. Its leaves, flowers, seeds, pods and bark are used in various medicinal and therapeutic purposes. Siyambala contains tartaric acid, citric acid and potassium citrate.
Among the health benefits, the mixture made from siyambala leaves can be used to treat constipation, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, asthma and various other ailments and diseases.
It is used for medicinal purposes
Choking: Mix siyambala paste, sour orange seeds, raisins, dried ginger, licorice and honey to make a recommended mixture to cure dizziness.
Fever: Using half a capsule of siyambala with 40 ml of fresh cow’s milk helps to cure fever.
For indigestion: Mix ripe siyambala paste with water and add sugar, pepper powder, cloves, mint and cinnamon powder and consume as a mixture.
