Sudu Heenati Rice –
This rice variety is called white henneti and turns black when mature due to its lemon and pale color. It is traditionally grown in Sri Lanka and produces a red medium sized grain. This works well in the dry zone. Traditionally black henna is used as a remedy for snake bites. Scientific studies have shown that it has medicinal properties in the treatment of diseases such as diabetes, cholesterol and hepatitis. Also, it is a rich source of iron and zinc. Consumption with bran is important in obtaining such valuable nutritional and medicinal value.
